: : Dear Sgt. Mike:
: : What do you know about the effect of electromagnetic interference on radar gun readings? Specifically, high tension power lines, power realy stations, etc. Have they been know to cause errant readings? Do you know of any reference material that supports or denies this claim?

: : Yours Truly,

: : CGM

: Sorry, I know nothing about that aspect of the radar devices. Sgt. Mike

Well maybe not.

Radar guns are extremely unreliable and their
readouts are banned as evidence in German courts.

As far as electromagnetic interference is concerned... Power houses, lines and the lot don't
operate in the microwave range (900+ MHz). If they did anybody getting near them would be toast ;-)
They shouldn't mess up the radar return. However such electromagnetic interference can interfere with the proper operation of electronic parts *within* the device. As to why radar guns are banned in Germany: They're not easy to handle and incorrectaim has a signficant impact on the readout. As a matter of fact a German Officer found a way to
cheat his device into giving readouts of excessive speeds of 60 mph above the speed limit.
